Job Title: Senior Imports Controller
Location: Johannesburg, South Africa
Hire Resolve’s client is a leading logistics company in Johannesburg and is seeking a highly experienced and skilled Senior Imports Controller to join their team. The Senior Imports Controller will be responsible for overseeing and managing all import operations, ensuring compliance with customs regulations, and optimizing operational efficiency within the imports department. The ideal candidate must have extensive knowledge of import processes and customs laws, excellent attention to detail, and strong leadership abilities.
Responsibilities:
1. Oversee Import Operations:
– Manage and supervise the Import Operations team, providing guidance and support as needed.
– Monitor and control import operations, ensuring smooth and efficient processes.
– Liaise with customs officials, shipping lines, and other relevant stakeholders to resolve any issues or queries.
2. Compliance and Customs Regulations:
– Ensure compliance with all customs laws and regulations, both nationally and internationally.
– Conduct regular audits to identify and rectify any compliance gaps or areas of improvement.
– Keep abreast of changes in customs regulations and communicate updates to the team.
3. Documentation and Record-Keeping:
– Oversee proper documentation for all import shipments, including bills of lading, customs forms, and certificates.
– Maintain accurate records of all import-related activities and documentation.
– Ensure timely and accurate filing of customs declarations and other required documents.
4. Cost Optimization:
– Collaborate with procurement and finance teams to optimize costs associated with import operations.
– Identify areas for cost savings and implement strategies to reduce import-related expenses.
– Review contracts with shipping lines, customs brokers, and other vendors to negotiate favorable terms and conditions.
5. Performance Monitoring and Reporting:
– Develop and implement key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure and monitor import operations’ efficiency.
– Generate regular reports on import performance, highlighting areas of improvement and potential risks.
– Provide recommendations and take corrective actions to improve overall import processes.
Requirements:
– Minimum of 5 years of experience as an Imports Controller or similar role within the logistics industry.
– Strong knowledge of import processes, customs regulations, and compliance requirements.
– Proven ability to lead and manage a team effectively.
– Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
– Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
– Proficient in relevant computer applications and software, such as customs clearance systems.
– Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
– Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
– Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or a related field (preferred).
