A fintech company dedicated to improving the lives of African communities through innovative financial and technology solutions is seeking an enthusiastic and diligent Data Scientist to join their team in Johannesburg. You’ll play a key role in supporting the entrepreneurial journeys of over 50,000 sales force members while helping to launch and scale a new fintech business.
Responsibilities:
Building and maintaining data models.
Extracting, cleaning, and consolidating data from multiple sources.
Creating dashboards and visual reports for operational and strategic use.
Conducting exploratory data analysis to identify trends and opportunities.
Building simple automation and optimization tools using Python and Excel.
Collaborating with engineers, product managers, and stakeholders to translate business needs into actionable insights.
Improving data delivery pipelines and enhancing data quality.
Minimum Requirements:
A tertiary qualification in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field.
A minimum of 2 years of experience in a Data Science or Data Analytics role.
Proficiency in English.
Strong problem-solving skills and a willingness to challenge assumptions.
Experience in exploratory data analysis and visual storytelling.
Experience creating stakeholder-facing dashboards using tools like AWS QuickSight or Google Data Studio.
Experience using Jupyter notebooks.
Experience with operational and performance analytics across sales, customer, and product data.
Advanced SQL for querying structured datasets.
Solid experience using Python for data manipulation and analysis.
Proficiency in data visualization and dashboard creation.
Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
Understanding of ETL concepts and data pipeline fundamentals.
Familiarity with cloud environments such as Google Cloud or AWS is a plus.
A basic understanding of statistics and hypothesis testing.
