Outbound Technical Sales Representative Full Time

Our client is a leading provider of power protection and backup power solutions, delivering high-quality UPS systems, batteries, inverters, and electrical solutions to commercial and industrial customers across South Africa. They are seeking an experienced Technical Sales Representative to join their growing sales team based in Johannesburg, GP.  

Overview: 

The Technical Sales Representative is responsible for driving new business development while maintaining and expanding existing customer relationships. This role combines technical expertise with consultative selling to deliver tailored UPS, inverter, battery, and backup power solutions that meet customer requirements.

The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of power protection products, excellent relationship-building skills, and a proven ability to achieve sales targets within technical environments.

Sales and Business: 

• Identify, develop, and secure new business opportunities.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with existing clients.
• Develop a strong network within the commercial, IT, maintenance, and facilities sectors.
• Conduct customer meetings, site visits, and product presentations.
• Achieve monthly, quarterly, and annual sales targets.
• Generate new leads through networking, referrals, cold calling, and strategic partnerships.
• Prepare accurate quotations, proposals, and tender submissions.
• Negotiate and successfully close sales opportunities.
• Maintain an active sales pipeline and provide accurate sales forecasts.

Technical Sales Responsibilitty: 

• Conduct customer site assessments to determine technical requirements.
• Recommend appropriate UPS, inverter, battery, and backup power solutions.
• Understand electrical terminology, basic electrical circuits, and load calculations.
• Size UPS systems and battery capacity based on customer requirements.
• Work closely with internal technical teams to ensure proposed solutions are practical and technically sound.
• Liaise with suppliers regarding product specifications and technical support.
• Assist with Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), and commissioning handovers when required.

Customer Relationships: 

• Provide professional technical advice before and after the sale.
• Deliver exceptional customer service throughout the sales process.
• Respond promptly to customer enquiries.
• Maintain regular communication with key accounts.
• Resolve customer concerns efficiently and professionally.
• Become a trusted advisor for customers’ backup power and power protection requirements.

Administration: 

• Prepare quotations, proposals, and tender documentation.
• Maintain accurate customer records within the CRM system.
• Update sales opportunities and customer interactions.
• Produce weekly sales activity reports.
• Track customer orders from quotation through to delivery.
• Assist with debtor follow-ups where necessary

Requirements: 

• Minimum 3–5 years’ external technical sales experience.
• Proven experience selling one or more of the following:
  • UPS Systems
  • Backup Power Solutions
  • Batteries
  • Inverters
  • Electrical Products
• Experience working with:
  • Contractors
  • Electrical Consultants
  • Facilities Managers
  • IT Managers
  • Commercial and Industrial clients.
