Mechanical Engineer/Application Engineer Full Time

A leading industrial air systems engineering company is looking for an experienced Mechanical Engineer / Application Engineer with strong experience in mechanical design, ventilation systems, and technical project execution to join their team in Cape Town.

This is a newly created position due to team growth, expanding the engineering department from two to three engineers. The successful candidate will work closely with a team of qualified mechanical engineers and be involved in ventilation and air handling projects from concept through to commissioning. The company specializes in large turnkey industrial projects across sectors such as mining, power generation, industrial processing, agricultural, marine, poultry, commercial, and HVAC.

This opportunity is ideally suited to a junior engineer with 2–3 years’ relevant experience who is looking to establish long-term career roots within a stable and growing engineering environment.

Responsibilities:

• Interpret client specifications, tender documents, and technical requirements
• Design and select appropriate ventilation and fan systems
• Prepare technical proposals, equipment schedules, and detailed costings
• Engage with clients to clarify requirements and present technical solutions
• Liaise with draughting, production, and installation teams to ensure practical and cost-effective designs
• Provide commissioning support and technical troubleshooting when required
• Ensure compliance with relevant industry standards and regulations
• Attend site visits and client meetings as required
• Manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining high attention to detail

Requirements:

• BEng / BSc in Mechanical Engineering
• 2–3 years’ experience in a mechanical engineering role
• Experience in ventilation, HVAC, fan systems, or industrial air movement applications advantageous
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Commercial awareness and cost-conscious mindset
• Self-motivated, structured, and methodical approach to work
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team
• Bilingual in English and Afrikaans advantageous
• Available to start immediately or after serving notice
