A well-established company in the logistics and supply chain sector is seeking an experienced Business Development Manager to join their team in Johannesburg. The successful candidate will be responsible for driving new business acquisition, developing strategic client relationships, securing profitable commercial deals, and growing existing customer accounts to support business growth.
The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in business development, sales, or key account management within the logistics, warehousing, freight, or supply chain sector, with a proven track record of closing new business deals, achieving revenue targets, and engaging confidently with senior decision-makers.
Key Responsibilities:
Identify, qualify, and secure new business opportunities within the logistics, warehousing, freight, container depot, and supply chain sectors.
Develop and implement targeted prospecting strategies to attract high-value customers.
Build and maintain a strong sales pipeline to achieve revenue and profitability targets.
Develop strategic relationships with senior executives and key industry decision-makers.
Grow existing customer accounts through upselling, cross-selling, and service expansion.
Lead commercial negotiations and structure profitable business agreements.
Prepare and present commercial proposals, quotations, and tender submissions.
Assess deal profitability, pricing, commercial risks, and market competitiveness.
Monitor market trends, competitor activity, and customer needs to identify growth opportunities.
Manage key customer relationships to support retention, satisfaction, and long-term business growth.
Collaborate with commercial, finance, and operations teams to support customer onboarding and service delivery.
Maintain accurate customer records, sales activities, and pipeline information on the CRM system.
Prepare regular reports on pipeline performance, deal closures, revenue generation, and market developments.
Ensure customer requirements and agreed service standards are met.
Minimum Requirements:
Approximately 7–10 years of relevant experience in business development, sales, or key account management within logistics, warehousing, freight, or supply chain services.
Proven track record of securing new business and consistently achieving or exceeding revenue targets.
Established network of client relationships in Johannesburg/Gauteng or a strong national industry network.
Strong commercial acumen and experience in negotiating profitable business deals.
Experience engaging with senior executives and key decision-makers.
Good understanding of logistics operations, warehousing, freight, container depot services, and supply chain solutions.
Strong strategic selling, relationship management, and account development skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and experience using CRM systems.
A tertiary qualification in Business, Commerce, Supply Chain Management, Logistics, or a related field is advantageous.
