Senior PostgreSQL Database Administrator Full Time

A South African-based IT company specializing in enterprise-grade data management, database services, and cybersecurity is seeking a Senior DBA to manage enterprise-grade database environments and support mission-critical systems. You will lead high-impact migration, optimization, and modernization projects, playing a pivotal role in driving PostgreSQL adoption across Africa.

Responsibilities:

• Infrastructure Management: Design, implement, and maintain high-availability PostgreSQL environments (Community and Enterprise).

• Performance Engineering: Lead troubleshooting, performance tuning, and scaling efforts for large-scale databases.

• Migration Leadership: Execute Oracle-to-Postgres migrations and provide expert guidance on cross-platform compatibility.

• Reliability & Security: Manage robust replication, backup/recovery strategies, and implement rigorous security policies.

• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with DevOps and Infrastructure teams to ensure seamless database integration and automation.

• Technical Support: Provide L1–L3 support and participate in an after-hours on-call rotation.

• Strategic Growth: Assist in pre-sales solution architecture and mentor junior team members.

Minimum Requirements:

• Experience: 5–8 years as a DBA, with 3+ years dedicated to PostgreSQL.

• Technical Depth: Proficient in Enterprise PostgreSQL platforms and Linux-based environments (CLI & Scripting).

• Core Competencies: Proven expertise in performance tuning, streaming/logical replication, and disaster recovery.

• Advantageous: Previous experience with Oracle Database is highly preferred.
