A leading food manufacturing company is looking for an experienced Quality Systems Specialist with strong experience in Quality Assurance, Food Safety Management Systems, HACCP, FSSC 22000, supplier quality management, and regulatory compliance to join their team in Port Elizabeth. The successful candidate will act as the subject matter expert on Quality and Food Safety, ensuring the maintenance and continuous improvement of the Quality Management System across multiple production facilities, while driving compliance with customer, regulatory, and certification standards.
Responsibilities:
Maintain and improve the Quality Management System (QMS).
Assist in establishing and implementing Food Safety and Quality policies, procedures, standards, and specifications.
Ensure compliance with HACCP, FSSC 22000, QA systems, GMP, GLP, and relevant South African regulations.
Participate in Internal Audits, HACCP, TACCP (Food Defence), VACCP (Food Fraud), and Special Situations teams.
Assist with non-conformance investigations and close-out of audit findings.
Act as Deputy for SANS 1841 implementation and maintenance.
Manage the Supplier Approval Process and conduct supplier audits when required.
Implement and maintain Supplier Quality Assurance controls and documentation.
Specify and monitor raw material quality requirements with suppliers.
Manage and maintain the equipment calibration programme.
Train and coach staff on Food Safety, HACCP, GMP, GLP, hygiene, allergen management, sanitation, pest control, traceability, and related requirements.
Ensure adherence to OHS Act, FSSC 22000, GMP and internal food safety procedures.
Complete purchase orders and verify quotations and invoices before submission to Accounts.
Travel between production facilities and conduct supplier audits where required.
Perform additional duties as required by management.
Requirements:
Bachelor’s Degree (preferably in Food Science, Microbiology or equivalent).
3–5 years’ experience within the Food Manufacturing Industry.
Strong knowledge of HACCP, FSSC 22000, QA systems, GMP and GLP.
Thorough understanding of laboratory practices and procedures.
Experience with supplier quality management and regulatory compliance.
Advanced computer literacy (Microsoft Word and Excel).
Strong analytical, numerical, organisational and problem-solving skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
High attention to detail and ability to work under pressure.
Valid driver’s licence and reliable vehicle.
Must reside in Port Elizabeth or surrounding areas.
