Financial Manager

A manganese mining company is on the lookout for a Financial Manager to join their team in the Northern Cape.

In this role, you will lead the financial reporting function and implement and maintain control systems and processes. You would plan, direct or coordinate accounting, and other financial activities of the mine.

Key requirements:

  • Investment and financial management:
    • Directs the financial and budgetary activities of the mine to fund operations, maximize investments, and increase efficiency. Monitor and measure progress against financial targets.
    • Ensures alignment of financial and budget requirements to the annual business plan.
    • Identifies areas of potential cost reduction, process improvement or policy change.
  • Internal Business Process Perspective
    • Operational leadership:
      • Ensuring effective financial capability exists to support business objectives.
      • Direct, plan, or implement policies, objectives and activities within the finance function to ensure continuous operation, maximize returns on investments and enhance the productivity of the finance function.
      • Instituting transparency in operations to engender public trust in financial and operational stewardship and to provide the highest level of service to stakeholders.
      • Ensuring operational activities are compliant with applicable legal, regulatory, ethical, and other corporate compliance requirements.
      • Overseeing the design of appropriate systems and controls to identify, and mitigate the principal business, financial, compliance, reputational and other significant risks facing the business.
      • Managing business operations and service delivery in the organisation’s key lines of business to meet strategic goals and objectives
      • Transforming the corporate offices and lines of business to focus on quality, standardisation and process and systems improvements.
  • Financial Process Management:
    • Oversight of the financial function of the mine including the following:
      • Day-to-day financial management of the entire business
      • Producing and presenting accurate management information on a regular basis as required
      • Implementing and monitoring of audit compliant financial processes and controls
      • Reviewing and authorising the monthly payroll
      • Maintaining the Life of Mine financial model
      • Reviewing and authorising the trial balance and management accounts
      • Reviewing annual financial statements and managing the external auditors
      • Inventory and warehouse management and authorising of stock write-downs
      • Overseeing and managing the creditor’s function
      • Managing the fixed asset function and ad hoc capital projects.
  • Governance:
    • Ensures the efficient management of company resources in accordance with the stipulations of relevant legislation, including the Companies Act, International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) principles, King (III) and others
    • Assures the accuracy and integrity of financial information, reporting and disclosure requirements, internal controls, and management information systems.
    • Ensures that risk management strategy is in place and compliance is effectively managed on the mine.
  • People Perspective
    • People management and leadership:
      • Recruit and develop skilled and talented staff within the finance function of the mine.
      • Manage performance of direct reports ensuring agreement of annual goals, measuring performance against agreed goals and dealing with non-performance accordingly.
      • Talent management of direct reports, including career developments and paths for all staff and succession planning for key positions.
      • Ensure that the working environment contributes to improving staff morale and increased productivity.
      • Alignment to the organisation’s transformation objectives through departmental processes.
      • Coaching and mentoring direct reports.
      • Ensuring a healthy and safe work environment for employees
  • Customer Perspective
    • Customer satisfaction:
      • Develop and maintain relationships with relevant stakeholders to influence decision making/interpretation in favour of business objectives.
      • Builds relationships across the organisation by sharing business information and knowledge.
      • Manage own performance in terms of agreed “Service Level Agreements” and agreed KPA/KPIs and effectiveness areas.
      • Driving customer satisfaction throughout the provision of quality of output.
  • Stakeholder engagement and management:
    • Negotiate with internal and external stakeholders to promote the business and service objectives of the company.
    • Ensure that the needs of organisational stakeholders are prioritised and managed including:
      • The CFO and company executives
      • The GM: Mine and HOD’s
      • Colleagues and employees.
    • Work with the CFO, and Mine HODs, colleagues and staff members to discuss issues, coordinate activities, or resolve problems.

Experience:

  • 5 years’ experience as a financial manager.
  • Mining industry experience essential.
  • SAGE X3 experience advantageous

Education & certificates:

  • BCom (Hons)(Accounting)
  • Registered Chartered Accountant CA(SA) preferred
