Assistant Resident Engineer
An industry-leading company situated in KwaZulu-Natal is urgently seeking the expertise of an experienced Assistant Resident Engineer to join their team.
Key Requirements:
- BEng | BTech Civil Engineering
- PrEng/PrTech
- Minimum of 10-15 years of related experience
- Represent the Employer’s Agent to the extent of his/her delegated responsibilities and keep the Employer’s Agent fully informed at all times
- Maintain a cooperative working relationship with the Contractor’s Representative
- Liaise with the Client Representative / Project Manager and manage the relationship
- Ensure that procedures and systems outlined in GIBB’s site-specific Project Plan are put into place and run effectively
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist the RE with all duties during the contraction supervision and defects liability periods
- Together with the RE ensure that the contractor is fully appraised of technical, social, environmental, health and safety responsibilities and assist with monitoring the same
- Inspect all works in progress to ensure the quality of the works and compliance with the contract documents
- Record, report and propose actions to redress poor workmanship and defects
- Review and verify the qualifications of the proposed key personnel of the contractor and make the necessary recommendations
- Verify that the Contractors use the testing equipment in accordance with the approved standards and international best practice
- Evaluate work in progress and propose changes in the works based on the field conditions
- Prepare discipline-specific daily site dairy
- Verify that the Contractor prepares and submits certified work as executed with records and plans of the completed works
- Review the quality of all material, plant and equipment supplied by the Contractor
- Review Contractor’s Claims and issues against construction records and daily site diary records
- Assist the RE with the production of monthly reports, progress payments, an extension of time and claim reports
- Manage the duties of staff within appropriate the Discipline specific management team
- Initiate action to prevent product/process non-conformance, including issuing NCOs and/or CARs to Contractors if required
- Review Hold Points and Conduct required inspections and release delegated Hold Points/Witness Points
